'Tis the Season...

Well, it's that time of year again - time to remember all that we are thankful for, those we miss, those we love, and for what we have. Here's a little poem that I think sums up what I'm trying to say:

Make a Memory

Make a memory with your children, Spend some time to show you care;
Toys and trinkets can't replace those Precious moments that you share.

Money doesn't buy real pleasure, It doesn't matter where you live;
Children need your own attention, Something only you can give.

Childhood's days pass all too quickly, Happy memories all too few;
Plan to do that special something, Take the time to go or do.

Make a memory with your children, Take the time in busy days;.
Have some fun while they are growing, Show your love in gentle ways.

Skating Vocab - Installment One

Aim—what you didn’t do if you ran into the barrier railing.

Angular—A type of takeoff, which is highly impractical if one’s partner is doing a parallel takeoff.

Arabesque—A fancy name for a spiral.

Backward—A boy who stammers when he asks a girl to skate.

Barrier—An unmovable wall or railing whose sole purpose is to bruise and annoy skaters.

Baseline—A supposedly stationary reference line, which increases the difficulty and adds to the confusion of dance skating.

Beat—What every pro occasionally feels like doing to his students!

Blues: A special dance devised by instructors in order to confuse their pupils with the Tango. It usually succeeds—this means more lessons to confuse them. This is very good for the trade.

Bracket—An inside out three turn.

Free Rollerskating Offered in an Effort to Reduce Obesity
Skateland Indy to offer free roller skate sessions on Thursdays this summer

(May 29, 2009 – Indianapolis) - Skateland Indy has partnered with FitCity to encourage families to get out and exercise for a healthy lifestyle. This is part of an on-going effort by FitCity to combat childhood obesity. Free skate sessions will be offered from 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays, June 4-August 6. Skateland Indy is located at 3902 N. Glen Arm Rd. Families who visit Skateland Indy at least six Thursdays this summer will be entered in a grand prize drawing.

According to the Roller Skating Association International:

Roller skating provides a complete aerobic workout and involves all of the body's muscles, especially the heart.

Roller skating is equivalent to jogging in terms of health benefits-caloric consumption, reduction of body fat and leg strength development.

Roller skating is recognized and recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) as an aerobic fitness sport.

The number of calories burned per hour while skating at 6 mph is 350 and 600 while skating at 10 mph.
“FitCity is excited to provide families with an affordable and fun alternative to exercise this summer,” said Eleather Baker, program director. “This is just one of the many ways we are encouraging Hoosiers to make a healthy move in an effort to turn the Circle City into a Fit City.”
